Hello friends! Thanks for stopping by our blog, where Lisa, Karina and I will be sharing the making of our film, “After the Wedding.”
“After the Wedding” will be the first feature-length production for our company, Pink Forest Films (and my feature directorial debut!), and we couldn’t be more excited to be sharing our journey with you.
We have to admit, at first, the idea of sharing our journey on such an open forum seemed a bit intimidating. There will be challenging times – Are we really going to be vulnerable in front of all these people and let it all hang out there?
The answer is yes. Why? Because we need YOUR support! It takes a team to make a film, so in an effort to connect with our future audience and collaborators, we have decided to take a leap of faith and document our experience here, on this blog. Besides, we already maintain a personal blog, which has been an incredibly positive experience for us. We think this will be too.
So in this blog you will see it all – our highs, our lows and our in-betweens. We’ll share with you our insights on fundraising, our production process, and even, hopefully, our journey to the festivals + distribution!
Simultaneously, we will also be joining the exciting grass-roots fundraising movement, most notably seen on Kickstarter. For those of you unfamiliar, Kickstarter is a phenomenal new website that allows filmmakers like us, the opportunity to raise money for their films by letting the audience fund, and essentially produce the film.
The way it works is that the filmmakers set a fundraising goal, and it’s up to the audience + supporters to fund the project within a limited amount of time. BUT if the goal isn’t reached within the time frame, then no money is exchanged and no movie is made. Eeks! We know it sounds risky, but because the audience can contribute at any level (literally starting at $1), we think a little can go a long way! (Did we mention taking a leap of faith?!
But honestly, all of this risky business is a welcomed gamble. Gone are the days of studio-backed only films. The indie film movement is truly BACK, and we feel very lucky to have the opportunity to try to make our film this way.
So once our kickstarter campaign launches, we truly hope you will check it out. We’ll be offering some fun incentives in exchange for your support, including empanada-making classes and muay thai classes, and even the chance to be an extra in our film, with our set photographer documenting your experience of the big day! (makes a great gift.)
Additionally, we will be releasing an exciting interview series called “Our secrets to a happy marriage”, where we interview great couples on their marriage secrets. Being that our film is about the trials and tribulations of the first year of marriage, we think our supporters will enjoy this series. We’ve got some great couples already lined up, including our parents, who will soon be celebrating their 35th year of being happily married!
So there you have it, friends. We’re about to start a filmmaking party, and sincerely hope you will join us! In the meantime, please feel free to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or subscribe to this blog by joining our newsletter for the latest updates!
Cheers to the making of “After the Wedding” + to you, our already-supporters. Now let’s make a movie!
With much love + gratitude,
Claudia Cifuentes
